Spirit Omega Inc in Partnership with The Indigenous Centre for Cumulative Effects is pleased to announce that we are seeking an Indigenous Cumulative Effects Advisor to join their team.

The Indigenous Centre for Cumulative Effects (ICCE) is an Indigenous-led and exclusively Indigenous-serving organization that supports Indigenous communities in addressing cumulative effects through a Two-Eyed Seeing approach. Our primary objective is to build and enhance the technical and scientific capacity of Indigenous communities across Canada, based on the values of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. As a resource, we provide funding for community-led projects, share knowledge, and link Indigenous communities together, working towards intergenerational decision-making and partnership building.
 
The Indigenous Cumulative Effects advisor provides strategic advice, guidance, and support to ICCE staff and First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. The advisor addresses complex cumulative effects problems to help find community and nation driven solutions rooted in culture and environmental stewardship. The job includes content, administrative, and programming work associated with 1) ICCE’s community agreements, 2) education and training programs, and 3) the Technical Advisory Committee. A hands-on approach to working alongside colleagues and partners as well as with communities in support of cumulative effects assessment is central to this role.   
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Collaborates on the development and implementation of ICCE programs aligned with ICCE Strategic Plan, mission and vision statements and operational priorities, including but not limited to:
    1. Support for community-based programming 
    2. Support for Cumulative Effects education and capacity training 
    3. Technical Advisory Committee supports
 
  • Builds community capacity related to cumulative effects.
  • Provides expert advice and guidance for Indigenous communities as well as internal and external audiences.
  • Provides administrative programming assistance and support as needed and required.
  • Contributes to teamwork including research assistance related to Indigenous CE assessment, follow-up, and monitoring.
  • Assists with website content creation and newsletters.

  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a positive organizational culture.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Office (M365), Google Workspace (e.g., Google Meet, Google Docs) and Zoom. Experience in SalesForce and/or GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) is an asset.
 
Qualifications

  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant field, such as Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies, Geography, Land Use Planning, etc. and/or equivalent work / lived experience with relevant educational background.
  • Indigenous Knowledge and/or experience with Indigenous communities is necessary. Ideal work experience is in relation to environmental stewardship and resource regulatory role(s) grounded in a deep understanding of Indigenous rights and cultures.
  • Experience in the field of cumulative effects management, assessment, and monitoring, or related fields.
