Location: 1675 Montgomery Park Road (100% Onsite)
Duration: 36 Months

Position Overview
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Technical Officer with specialized expertise in rotating equipment, vibration analysis, and mechanical maintenance support. This role will provide critical oversight for the inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning of pumps, fans, compressors, and associated systems. The ideal candidate will support both operational reliability improvements and capital refurbishment projects at Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical oversight and field support for the inspection, installation, commissioning, and testing of pumps, compressors, fans, and associated rotating equipment.
  • Lead and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for new equipment.
  • Analyze vibration data and make engineering recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Investigate and evaluate bearing failures, including root cause determination and documentation.
  • Develop and revise maintenance procedures to optimize equipment reliability.
  • Support major capital projects such as Pickering B Refurbishment and the Vibration Monitoring Program.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to junior and senior engineers and deliver in-house technical training (e.g., on pumps, seals, bearings, and vibration monitoring).
  • Participate in Significant Incident Resolution (SIR) and System Health teams.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation such as specifications, calculations, and procedures.
  • Evaluate technical problems and develop solutions or recommendations for resolution.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including AECL, OPG departments, vendors, and regulatory agencies, for approvals, implementation, and field coordination.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent education and experience).
  • Minimum 6–8 years of experience in rotating equipment engineering within nuclear or industrial facilities.
  • Proven track record in performing failure investigations, reliability improvements, and system-level technical evaluations.
Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of plant systems, rotating machinery, maintenance practices, and operational processes.
  • Qualified Pump and Vibration Engineer (OPG designation preferred).
  • In-depth expertise with bearing systems, mechanical seals, and equipment diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards such as ASME PD763 (Centrifugal Pump Testing & Design).
Certifications & Specialized Training
  • Vibration Analysis – Category III (Vibration Institute)
  • IR Thermography – Level 2
  • Ultrasound – Level 1
  • Multiple SKF certifications including:
    • WE201: Bearing Maintenance & Technology
    • WE204: Bearing Failure & Root Cause Analysis
    • BSD301: Bearing System & Design
  • Member of the Canadian Machinery and Vibration Analysis (CMVA)
Software Skills
  • Proficient in Windows OS and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with Asset Suite and other enterprise maintenance or monitoring tools
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to support extended working hours (>44 hours/week) as required by project schedules.
  • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Capable of preparing cost justifications, coordinating cross-functional input, and supporting technical approvals through internal and external channels (e.g., AECB, IAEA, AECL).
