Construction Flagger (Traffic Control Flagger)

Job Summary
The Construction Flagger is responsible for maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow through construction zones. This role involves directing vehicles and pedestrians using approved signaling devices while ensuring the safety of workers, motorists, and the general public. The ideal candidate is alert, dependable, and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Control and direct traffic through construction or work zones using hand signals, flags, signs, and other approved traffic control devices
  • Communicate clearly with drivers, pedestrians, and construction crew members
  • Set up, monitor, and remove traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, and signage
  • Maintain constant awareness of traffic flow and construction activity to prevent accidents
  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and local/state traffic control regulations
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues to supervisors immediately
  • Assist with traffic control planning as directed by the site supervisor
  • Remain attentive and professional at all times while on duty
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid flagger certification (or ability to obtain certification prior to assignment)
  • Basic understanding of traffic control and safety procedures
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Strong communication and situational awareness skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)
  • Good vision and hearing (with or without corrective devices)
