About the Role
Imperial Oil Resources Limited is seeking a Project Engineer II to support capital and maintenance projects at the Sarnia Refinery. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring engineering projects are executed safely, efficiently, and within budget and schedule. This position provides technical leadership and project coordination across multiple disciplines, supporting the full project lifecycle—from design through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in Invitation to Tender (ITT) development, bid evaluations, and contractor selection processes.
  • Support identification and sourcing of long-lead equipment and ensure FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) support through assignment.
  • Coordinate the development of EMCAPS Gate 3 deliverables and the Functional Interaction Plan.
  • Manage the project issue resolution and change request processes, including endorsement and authorization of scope changes.
  • Ensure all assigned project scopes are delivered safely, on schedule, and in line with project objectives and quality standards.
  • Act as a liaison between the Project Management Team (PMT), contractors, and functional departments to maintain alignment and communication.
  • Provide oversight and technical support to verify that project designs and construction activities comply with specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the Project Manager by leading key project activities and ensuring smooth transitions between project stages.
  • Promote the consistent use of Project Management Systems and continuous improvement across the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical, or related discipline).
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in engineering, construction, or project management within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proven experience managing multiple project phases (FEED, EPC, commissioning, and handover).
  • Strong understanding of engineering design standards, specifications, and work processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and coordination skills across cross-functional and contractor teams.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines, shifting priorities, and high-volume workloads effectively.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
