Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer
Job Description
Company: Imperial Oil Resources Limited
- Provide technical oversight and review of discipline engineering work performed internally and by contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications, company standards, and applicable codes.
- Execute control system lifecycle management programs, including inventory tracking, obsolescence planning, spare parts management, and upgrade/replacement strategies.
- Support control system maintenance and testing activities such as software upgrades, emergency shutdown (ESD) testing, and both offline and online commissioning—with or without plant shutdowns.
- Plan and coordinate metering systems maintenance for custody transfer, allocation, regulatory, and leak detection applications.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure industrial control systems comply with Imperial’s Industrial Control System Requirements (ICSR), reducing cyber risk exposure.
- Contribute to multi-disciplinary alarm management initiatives, including alarm rationalization, prioritization, state-based design, and system modifications.
- Review, update, and develop I&C documentation such as P&IDs, cause-and-effect diagrams, control narratives, and system architecture drawings.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to align project activities, technical deliverables, and operational goals.
- Travel to production facilities and affiliate offices as required to support new technology rollouts, upgrades, and system standardization efforts.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Control Systems Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- Extensive knowledge of instrumentation and control design standards, specifications, codes, and safety criteria.
- Proven ability to review and interpret P&IDs, logic diagrams, cause-and-effect matrices, and control narratives.
- Demonstrated experience selecting and specifying hardware (pressure, temperature, and level instruments; control and shutdown valves; fire/gas detection systems).
- Skilled in data collection and analysis using tools such as SAP, Analytics for Excel, and Tableau.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
- Highly organized with the ability to adapt to dynamic project requirements, tight deadlines, and shifting priorities.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Fluent in English (verbal and written), particularly in technical and business communications.
